runner runner
In hold'em a player who makes an unlikely hand by getting a needed card on both the turn and the river, is said to have gotten a runner runner. Prior to the turn the player is the clear underdog and though not quite drawing dead will require two cards to win.
Situations requiring a runner runner to win occur usually when an opponent has flopped a monster, or the player in question has completely missed the flop and does not hold a high card. It additionally occurs when both players have flopped strong hands but one is higher, such as both players with a flush.
Tobias hit two pair with his 8♠ 7♠ on a flop of Q♦ 8♣ 7♥. He puts in a half-pot bet to keep with his aggressive image. Nelly calls with Q♣ Q♥. Tobias is in a terrible position since he has no true outs at the moment, but might think he has the superior hand. Only a runner runner or two sevens or eights would win at this point. Of course a seven or eight on the turn would be devastating since it would give Nelly a stronger full house. Tobias would then be drawing thin with only the one seven for four of a kind.
