A straight is a poker hand with five cards in increasing rank. The suit of each card is not relevant and normally the ace can be used as either a high or low card.

The highest valued card in straight is used to denote the value of the straight. Thus the above is a Jack-high straight. Two straight are compared by the highest card, the player with the higher straight wins. If both players have the same high card then the straight is a tie.

Excluding the case where a player has made a straight flush, the suits hand no relevance in determining the strength of a straight.

Draws

Straight draws are a very common drawing hand in any poker game. This occurs when a player has four of the cards need to form the straight.

Bugs

Straights have a special significance in games which use a bug. In these games the joker may be used to complete the straight when a player holds a straight draw.
