multi-way pot
A multi-way pot refers a situation where three or more players remain in a hand after the first betting round. It indicates that all of these players are vying for the money in the pot. This is in contrast to heads up where only two players are involved.
In a game of stud, Joe completes the bring-in. Sally raises. Timothy and Joe call. There is a three-way, or multi-way pot with Joe, Sally, and Timothy playing.
The number of players in the second round of betting has a strong influence on the particular tactics a player must employ. Every additional player also reduces the strength of any particular hand.
