re-buy
A tournament may allow the player a chance to buy an additional sum of chips should their stack be depleted or fall beneath a certain threshold. This is called a re-buy.
Tournaments that offer a re-buy are no longer freezeout tournaments. However, the option to re-buy can often only be performed a certain number of times and up to a specific point in the tournament. After this point the tournament reverts to the standard freezeout format.
Jeff is playing a $25 Hold'em Tournament. Each player is given 3000 chips and has two re-buy options should they drop below 1000 chips. The re-buy costs $25 and gives the player another 2000 chips. Jeff sinks to 870 chips early in the tournament and choses to rebuy, bringing him up to 2870 chips.
