independent event
In probability an independent event is one in which outcomes are not influenced by previous outcomes. That is, whatever happened in the past does not influence the current situation.
The chance to draw heart from a deck of cards is 13 in 52. After drawing the card you return it to the deck and shuffle. If you now draw again you have the same 13 in 52 chance of drawing a heart.
In poker dependent events are more common in calculations. However, as the example shows, the outcome of a single hand is not decided by any previous hand. That is, a player getting pocket aces in one hand of hold'em in no way reduces their chance of getting pocket aces on the next hand.
