Is it good to play tight then go all in pre flop?

Is it good to play tight then go all in pre flop? kidmace

Answer

No. Indeed that would be a terrible way to play. To which you might respond, "but there are all sorts of people doing that in online poker." So what's the deal?

Going all-in preflop is typically combined with having a short stack. Basically these players just wait around for a premium hand and shove. They are hoping for a sucker to call their bet, at which point they turn over kings or aces. In short, it is a very weak strategy. To be safe you can only ever play ultra-premium hands. Doing so will however label you as ultra-tight and any bet you make will have your sensible opponents folding. If you loosen your starting requirements, playing more cards, you open a window for the attentive, and patient, opponent to call you with a better hand.
