Texas Hold'em

Texas Hold'em, or simply hold'em, is a variant of poker which involves hole cards and community cards. It is played with two or more players and has four betting rounds.

Gameplay

Dealer

In the first round of play at a new table cards will be dealt to determine who is the first dealer. The player with the highest card will be the first dealer and each game the button shifts one to the left.

Deal and Blinds

Hold'em is a game played with blinds and optionally an ante. The first player to the left of the dealer is required to post the small blind before seeing their cards. The player to their left will be required to post the big blind. The small blind is typically half the size of the big blind.

Each player will be dealt two hole cards. These are also referred to as the player's pocket cards.

The first round of betting begins with the player to the immediate left of the big blind. The players must either call the big blind, fold, or raise. If only two players are in the hand then the dealer posts the small blind and starts the action on the first round, subsequent rounds the big blinds starts the action.

Once betting is complete the flop is dealt.

Flop

Three cards will be dealt face-up in the middle on the table. These cards are the first three of five community cards. All players may use these cards to form their hand.

The second betting round is done and then the turn is dealt.

Turn and River

In each of the turn and the river one additional community card will be dealt followed by a betting round.

Showdown

Once betting is complete after the river card the game comes to a showdown. The players, in order from the dealer to the left, show their cards and declare their hands. The player with the highest valued hand takes the pot.

A player may use any combination of their two hole cards, and the five community cards, to make their hand.

If multiple players have the same hand then the pot will be split.
