aggressive

Aggressive is a term used frequently in poker but lacking a consistent and clean definition. It generally refers to plays of aggression, such as betting, but may also refer to playing a wide range of opening hands.

A player who enters a lot of pots is sometimes called an aggressive player. Usually such a tactic requires a lot of betting since the player is often underdog and for a scare card or some other manner in which to get opponents to fold.

A player who, when playing, makes a lot of bets and raises is usually considered aggressive. This is in contrast to a player who is content with calling. The aggression is used to show hand strength, or simply to give other players unfavourable pot odds.

Further to this, there are several actions which are considered aggressive actions. A bet out of position, in particular early position is an aggressive action. Reraises are usually considered aggressive actions.
