connector
A connector is any two cards of successive rank. This is a common term in hold'em to refer to such pocket hands.

The above is a connector. Theses hands have an increased value of becoming straights or straight draws.
A connector can be both suited or unsuited. The suited connector has an additional chance of a flush or flush draw.
Gap Connector
While a connector to refers to any two cards of one rank higher/lower than the other, a gap connector is a bit more lenient. These are any two cards which have a distance from each other of not more than three. Thus it is possible with three addtionial cards (the flop for example) to form a straight.
