double up

To double up means to double one's stack size through an all in bet. The all in has to be called and the hand must go to showdown with a definite winner.

Noel has had a few bad losses so far in the tournament and has a rather small stack. He catches pocket aces and pushes all in hoping for a call and the chance to double up.

Even with additional antes and a few small bets from other players the phrase double up is still used. The player who made the all in bet will have technically more than doubled up however.

The term triple up is sometimes used in situation where an all in bet gets called by two other players and wins.
