open ended straight draw
A type of straight draw in which either a high or low card can complete the straight. This is one of the 8-out straight draws as there are 8 cards which would complete the straight.
It is also known as the up-and-down straight draw.
This drawing hand could become a straight with either a six or a jack.
Hang has worked himself into a corner. He raised preflop with K♠ Q♠ and the flop has come J♦ T♣ 5♥. Jeffrey has made a $50 bet into the $100 pot. This however puts Hang all-in, as he has only $30 left. Normally he wouldn't call with the straight draw, but using the Odds Helper he sees he has actually a 31% chance to make the straight by the river. He has in this case an expected value of almost $50 to a $30 bet, thus he makes the call.
