read
A read is the ability to observe another player and reasonably determine their intentions or their cards. A read may be made on a betting action, physical gesture, or behaviour of another player.
A read is done by a player who receives information, whereas the player who has inadvertently revealed something is said to have a tell.
Maxx has been watching Fredrik over the past hour. Though Fredrik is a good player, he has one very good tell. Fredrik tends to make value bets on good hands, but will occasionally underbet. Maxx has noticed that Fredrik sometimes still counts out the chips for a value bet, but they only puts half in the pot, whereas with a truly weak hand Fredrik just counts out the underbet. Thus Maxx has a very good read on Fredrik.
