ring game

A ring game is a game played with direct monetary stakes and without a predetermined start or end. Players may come and go from the table as they please and may at any point buy additional chips. Players are competing directly for the money currently in the pot

Ring games are in contrast to a tournament which has a fixed buy-in with a predetermined level progression. In a tournament prizes are awarded based on the position of finish and not on individual hands.
