round
Round should win a prize for being the word with the most meanings in poker. Most commonly it tends to refer to a particular betting round. Alternately it is often used to refer to a full round of the button moving around the table.
Less commonly, and perhaps confusingly, it may refer to a single played game, being synonymous with hand when used in this sense. It is recommended against the use of the word in this sense as hand is the more commonly accepted term.
In English the term may also be used to refer to a particular sitting or series of hands being played. As in the expression, "let's play a round of poker" or "we played a few rounds of poker".
Hand, Game, Round
The terms hand, game and round are used for various and multiple purposes in poker. This can often left to a bit of confusion, though usually resolved by context. There is however a common use of these terms.
A hand refers either to specific poker hand or to a single played game of poker, from deal to showdown.
A round refers either to the dealer button making one full round of the table, or to a particular betting round in a hand.
A game in general refers to the specific variant of poker being played. It may however be synonymous with hand in referring to a specific played game. This second form is less common and not recommended.
